Welcome to
Moss Institute
With championships in both Australia and abroad, New South Wales-based Moss Institute conducts professional motocross coaching nationwide, year-round.
Gregory Moss is the head coach and founder of the Moss Institute, developing a proven coaching technique after almost 40 years in the sport and over 20 years of coaching experience.
Accredited by the Australian Institute of Sport as a Level 2 Master Coach, Greg has an eye for up and coming Australian talent, developing many of our national and international professionals.
With a unique talent in analysing riding techniques and communicating with riders, Greg has what it takes from both a basic and world-class perspective.
Those features have been honed for many years working alongside professional sons Jake and Matt Moss, who have both achieved domestic national championships and American AMA podiums.
Highlights during the racing career of Jake and Matt include some of Australia’s most historic motocross milestones. Those results came after years of hard work and refinements, but aren’t just limited to Greg’s sons in the sport.
Jake stood alongside countrymen Chad Reed and Michael Byrne in an Aussie sweep of the 450 Class podium in moto one at Southwick’s AMA Pro Motocross Championship round in 2009. Jake is one of just five Australians who have reached the podium at the pinnacle of the sport in the U.S outdoors.
Matt was part of Team Australia’s 2011 Motocross of Nations team, which was the first ever to stand on the overall podium in third overall. Joined by Reed and Brett Metcalfe, Matt’s Australian team stood proud alongside Team USA and home team France at St. Jean d’Angely.
With these results and the recent podium of Matt in the West Coast Lites class of AMA Supercross at San Diego, Greg remains the lone coach in the country to train a rider from club level racing on a PeeWee to AMA Pro Racing in America.
Jake and Matt feature as assistant Moss Institute coaches when available and are Level 1 accredited, also gifted with unique skills to communicate and transfer their techniques to students during the programs.
Also under the guidance of Greg, Australia’s first and only official FIM Motocross World Championship was won by Jay Wilson in the 85cc junior category during 2009. Greg was the team coach for the Australian squad on that occasion.
Hunter and Jett Lawrence were extensively coached by Greg in their junior years as were Jed Beaton and Mitch Evens in fact Darren Lawrence Hunter and Jetts dad, Greg states was his best student ever. Australian Women’s Motocross Champion Meghan Rutledge is also an experienced and well accomplished Moss Institute rider. Coached by Greg since the age of four, Meg dominated the national women’s titles in her rookie season during 2011 at the age of 16.
In fact most of the Professional riders in Australia have been extensively coached by Greg: Luke Clout, and Hayden Mellross just to mention a few.
